Sámi Rights

By running a Sámi organisation, we help to safeguard our heritage and shape our future through work that is grounded in self-determination, non-discrimination, land and culture. Where Sámi self-governance is limited, the rights to self-determination, non-discrimination, property, culture and participation become especially important. This also includes the right to consultation and to free, prior and informed consent. This module will empower you to navigate the legal framework, perform advocacy work and secure Sámi rights across Sápmi, both today and for generations to come.

Shaping the future of Sámi organisations & associations

ReCap ASáp: Regaining capacity in a changing Sápmi is an Interreg Aurora funded project led by the Saami Council in partnership with Suoma Sámiid Guovddášsearvi. The project aims to build capacity in Sámi civil society, to ensure that Sámi civil society have the proper opportunities and the means to actively participate in, and influence issues affecting Sápmi. The project period is 2023-2026.
